Help with my SE : weight issue #1
Hello,

I recently buy on Amz a 3.300EUR laptop (10 years old clean account), and a friend helped me by buying a cheaper one, both laptops were supposed to be roughly the same weight, but in the end, they don't. One is 2.2 kg (alone) when the other is 1.4kg... and with the extra packaging and all, the package of the expensive one goes up to 4.8kg when the package of the cheaper one is only 3 kg. I wanted to go with the wrong item method but I think I know that the weights are supposed to match, which is disappointly far from the truth here. I have a small iron rod which weights exactly the difference (1.8 kg) and I'm thinking about "hiding" it into the box with a fake bottom or something like that, but besides this cheap trick I don't know what possibility I have, hence my thread. If I should give up tell me, but if I have to try something anyway then I'm all ears for that.

Thanks in advance.

stacks of paper? they are pretty modulable.

Or another entirely different item that weights roughly the same as the laptop. The item should come from amazon own warehouses.

Would it work with an *entirely* different item ? I think I'll go with dry ice... for some reason I always thought it was classic (water) ice, so I never get it why I read about this so much. Now I know...

So is the weight only measured at the shipment, or is it also measured when it arrives at the warehouse ?

For me it worked, for a 1400 euros item. Swapped the item with a lot of paper to match the weight.
The stack of paper was bought from amazon as well from an entirely different account.

Okay thanks for your insight. But most important, do you know if the package weight is only measured at the beginning at the shipment, and not when it arrives in the Amz warehouse ?

no idea. dry ice in general seems risky. imagine a courier who sees a smoking package in his truck. he would go in alarm mode.

Well now I changed my mind but I don't know which way to go : do I go with wrong item method and send them back the cheap computer + 1.8kg of dry ice in the package OR do I go with boxing method and replace the expensive computer with its weight of dry ice ? (which is 2.2 kg alone...)

Why not opt for the sealed box method?

There'd be no Issues adjusting the 800 gram variance In weight on the Item Itself, and reseal It to perfection thereafter.

Does it work if I opened the big package box ? I know what the sealed box method is, but I realize I haven't thought about it since it looks... too beautiful to be real, somehow ? Like they really won't check if the article is inside its own box ? And the 800g difference left would be like, dry ice ?

edit : actually I don't feel confident for it because of the weight difference, so I think I'm gonna give up and make a legit refund, so is it going to ruin my clean Amz account since I want to try again with another item in a few months ?

It's the laptop box/packaging that's of relevance.

The method has one of the highest success rates.

If there's no signs of tampering whatsoever, It will not give them reason to check the return.

The box will not be opened on return, so add anything you like.
