^ That's my question for a speech I need to do tomorrow.
I'd be interested in any of your views , and especially statistics if you know any. Here's a rough plan if anyone's interested (nothing spectacular in the slightest...).

Spoiler:
Intro
. Talk about what privacy is – A person’s right to control who has access to information about them
. Talk about how it’s getting out of hand – Nowadays, our information is being held and abused by certain companies.
. Talk about why it matters – You’ve got nothing to hide, you’re not a criminal. Well no, but other people can exploit this information or simply look at it.
You wouldn’t tell me your salary, so why should I be able to go and find it out with a few dedicated clicks.
For the statement
. Companies will hold data on you; emails, passwords and sell irresponsibly. Meaning someone else could gain access to your account.
. Cookies are used to track what you do online and on a specific site; used to monitor browsing activity.
. ISP’s, your search engine, and some VPNs will also collect and hold data on you, without good reason.
. Google has started listening to conversations. Test: I spoke about wanting to buy a hybrid car for 5 minutes. The next 5 ads I saw were all for cars. 4 of them for hybrid cars.
. It is like a camera following you around all day.
Case study: Target: worked out a teenage girl was pregnant by looking at her browsing choices, before her dad could find out. Other companies are using this data to manipulate prices, based on how many people will be buying it.
Tesco; extending this invasion into real life, scanning customers at petrol stations to offer relevant information online.
Finally, talk about google data. How it showed: IP, transaction history, Mail, Phone contacts , Schedule and much more.
Against
People can easily prevent this; they just don’t care enough / don’t know how important their private data really is.
New companies that process anonymity: Duckduckgo, a trusted VPN will not store data but will also hide it from your ISP.
Some people might not see it as such as a bad thing, cyber-criminals are caught easier and they don’t see much harm being done.
Other steps can be done to prevent serious damage: e.g. using slightly different passwords for each application.
Cookies are necessary and helpful, show you things you might not have otherwise seen.
Very few people have been dramatically affected.
. Google is being very transparent with how they handle your data.
Conclusion
.Is it already too late
.Either way it’s getting out of hand.
