I think because so many common companies have changed their policies (like think how often companies would issue advanced replacements compared to now)  so people resort to that.  I think people are still testing things here and there, just not posting about it unno.

Pretty much this. A few years ago, company policies were a lot lax. Amazon now using OTP for high value deliveries just proves this, only a few years ago you could triple dip refunding Macbooks for example, without any investigation.
These days its best to spend time finding undiscovered stuff that hasn't been rinsed by everyone, which is what I do now. Its much more worth it
