Just abandon Tapatalk. I've never seen a more horrible application for mobile integration of sites.

I agree. Tapatalk is nice in concept, but it adds more stuff to do so that the site also works for the app. Why should the site have to compensate for an app when mobile internet browsing has become significantly easier and more powerful with HTML 5? The time spent on the app while it may be minimal could be used for mobile browsing especially when the app has a serious problem with the site as often as it does.

Is it wrong that I often just use it because the notifications let me know when someone has responded to me and I just then go on my laptop to reply?

I've never been one for utilizing apps, ever.

I don't use my cell phone when posting on forums, It's simply too small, slow and somewhat annoying. There's no right or wrong, that's just me.
