Google Pixel Keynote 10-04-2016, 11:33 PM
#1
Did anyone see the Google Keynote today? If you did let me know what you thought of it; do you plan to get any other the products? If you did see it then I'll give you a bit of a summary on it! I'll also have a podcast up later today talking about it, I'll post the link when It's up.
The first thing that was talked about was,
Software:
The Company went on about the many improvements they've made with their Google translation over all along with the improvements with their text-to-speech functions giving it a more natural tone. Once the small tweaks were spoken about, Google reveled "Google for you."
Google Assistant played a HUGE part in this keynote but I'll go over just a few features right now. GA (Google Assistant) continually learns from the users to give the most natural and helpful response as well as some conversation. GA also recognizes apps you usually use (not meaning default apps) for example, if you usually listen to music through the YouTube app and you tell GA to "play Rush Minute by Massive Attack" then it'll open your YouTube app and play the song. Same goes to Spotify if that's what you mainly use. Not only does the assistant recognize your default apps but it also recognizes keywords on screen, for example if you and a friend are talking about going to Little Tokyo but want to eat over there too you can swipe up, google will show you the places around Little Tokyo to eat, and you can make reservations if necessary.
The next bit of software they talked about is Google Duo, what Google Duo is is a video calling app that lets you video call with people over Android and IOS. A cool feature that I like in Duo is the "Knock Knock" feature which lets me see the video of the person on the other end before I decide to answer the call or not, think of it as a peephole.
Next up is,
Hardware:
First thing out of the gate regarding hardware is Google Pixel which is Googles brand new phone made entirely by google (hardware & software).
The specs for the phone are:
The camera on this phone was one of the biggest topics in the keynote talking about how its been tested and rated by DxOMark as the best camera ever to be on a smart phone with a score of 89. That not only shows on the specs but also from the examples they showed along with some quick shutter speed and the phone picking the most visually clear photo out of a bunch. The company also gave a little example of GA again telling the assistant to "Show me pictures of last October" & "show me pictures of running". Video was also shown in the keynote mostly to show off their amazing video stabilization which was just... well, amazing! Google Pixel with also have quick charging so it will get 7 hours of battery life with a 15 minute charge. Another thing I really liked is that updates.. I don't mean what they consist of, I mean the fact that they install in the background so the next time you reboot your device the update is already applied. No more having to stare at a loading screen.
Google Pixel may have been the first to be announced but certainly not the last, Daydream View was next to be talked about and it looks great. This virtual reality headset was a bit odd in a goo way. First off it looks a bit like a fanny pack for your head but it looks comfortable, comfort was the main thing in mind when making this which is why they also talked about how east and comfortable is was to wear it even with glasses. Daydream doesn't have a metal or plastic finish but instead its fabric, soft microfiber material sort of like workout clothes.
Comfort may have been the main thing in mind while making the VR machine but it was also the ease of use that stood out. All you have to do is place your phone in the front pouch and you're ready to go, it's that easy. Daydream comes with a controller which has two buttons and a track pad looking thing, it's"very well built" the spokesman said as he dropped the remote by accident. As of right now Google has partnered up with over 50 products and businesses bringing in stuff for the Daydream over the year with more to come.
Apps like:
These next three products are pretty easy to explain so I'll just fly by them.
The next product is Google Wifi which is a modular internet router that you put in different rooms of your house to improve your network strength. Next!
ChromeCast Ultra: We all know what a chromecast is I'm sure so what is chromecast ultra? its everything you love about the chromecast but with better quality and performance.
ChromeCast Ultra is 1.8 times faster and supports Ethernet connection as well as 4k, HDR, & Dolby Vision. Moving on!
Last is Google Home which sounds like a really cool product but I didn't get to watch that part of the keynote because we have an earthquake drill at the office so I apologize.
So what do you guys think are you getting any of these products? I plan of pre-ordering the Google Pixel phone and get the Daydream View free with it but thats about it for me. I'd love to hear your thoughts of all of this, thanks for reading and have a great day.
