Personally I started with Java. That gave me an introduction to programming. Then I taught myself c++, c, and assembly. Personally I enjoy writing most of my programs in c.

The question is always what you want to do with the language. There is no good/bad language per se, but a language might be bad for a certain task. Since you want to write Keyloggers and similar, C or C++ (or other languages with low-level access) are indeed a good advice.
