Good excuse for roommate seeing I have a new item?

Trying a mid-value DNA in the next few weeks for something I've wanted for a while now but can't (or shouldn't, anyway) really afford ATM. Once I do the method and get the item, what's a good excuse for my roommate who will inevitably ask how I afforded it? Say I won a sweepstakes? Someone was selling it on craigslist saying it was broken but I found a cheap part it needed? Sent to me by mistake?

Why would your roommate be bothered lol?
Also you could just say it was a gift from one of your relatives since you've wanted it for a long time or as you said say you won a sweepstake

You purchased the Item on credit, or an Installment plan as agreed with the company.

When you live with a roommate you kinda have to get along, it's not optional or you can't be roommates.
If my roommate was doing sussy stuff like having a bunch of expensive stuff just show up I would want to know so I don't get caught up in it.
My first guess would be he's selling drugs and I don't want some junkie coming by asking if I got anything.

It all comes down to "trust".

When that's been well and truly established, you don't need to justify every move you make. Otherwise, find another roommate who understands your morals/values and vice versa. In the OP's case, It doesn't Impact his roommate In any way, shape, or form, hence there's no need for explanations.
