So I used to use 143vpn, before I switched to ubuntu. Turns out I can't use it anymore because 143vpn owners are too lazy to give me a solution to fix it .-..
They sue openvpn gui btw. And it is something with that is breaking for me.

Anyone know any good vpns for ubuntu 14.04? I only need one so I can just the skype program instead of web.skype.com, since its a piece of shit.

Any VPN that offers an OVPN config file. Then simply import it through network manager. I would not use the official client of any VPN provider.

As panther said, just use OpenVPN or another free VPN provider.

I've used Private Internet Access in the past, and have nothing bad to say about them. They, unlike 143 also aren't ran by HF users, so thats a bonus. They offer OpenVPN, PPTP, L2TP and socks5, so compatibility with any operating system you're running should not be a problem.

PIA is pretty good, mullvad is another interesting option, there's also ssh tunneling or tunneling your traffic through dns which is nice for evading censorship or blocking. I don't think their socks5 proxies are connected to the vpn though I might be wrong.

Your distro doesn't affect what vpns you can use, ubuntu users can by default use network manager however there's also things like the openvpn command line utility.

NordVPN would be my choice.
I would buy their service and they accept Bitcoins.
They keep no logs and they have a lot of anonymity options.
You will need open VPN installed in the system using the dpkg -i <Filename> make sure you are in the right directory by using cd to get to the selected service ,ls to list all programs and pwd commands to se in what directory you are in.
Then from the config folder you will download from nord you will type from the terminal sudo openvpn --config ksjdnfksjnfksjfkksnfkdk.ovpn enter credentials and wala
