Generation 4 Remakes + Legends 05-13-2021, 02:45 AM
#1
So it's been 3 months since the announcements from the Pokemon company.
The first announcement was New Pokemon Snap, the second being Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and the last being Pokemon Legends Arceus. Now I enjoyed the original Pokemon Snap, so it's no surprise that I also enjoy the New Pokemon Snap.
The main subject of this thread though is to discuss the D/P remakes and Legends. I've got a lot to say about D/P.
Now generation 4 is my favorite generation of Pokemon. My second favorite video game of all-time is Pokemon Platinum. I'm even replaying it now for the N+1th time, shiny hunting for a Cresselia. I loved playing generation 4 from the day it came out way back when in late 06. This being the case, I have played the ever loving shit out of generation 4.
It's been 15 years since GameFreak released D/P, with several games in-between. There's been so much that the community has come to love over the years--Pokemon that follow you from HGSS, the more home-console like 3D graphics that came with Sword and Shield on the Switch--and yet on the opposite side of the same coin, there's been a lot that the community has made large outcry against--not having the full PokeDex in SwSh, gimmicks like Z-moves, giganti/dyna-maxes, for some people megas, just to name some.
So I'll paint a little bit of a picture for you. It's February 26th, 2021, the world has known about the Pokemon Anniversary event for a week or so officially. The stream starts off with some timelime of the Pokemon media over the years, then Takato Utsunomiya sets us up for the New Pokemon Snap announcement.
Shortly after NPS, we do a flashback to 2007. We see a Nintendo DS with Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, followed by a screen of just text that says "Experience the brilliance once more!"
The screen goes black, and then we get...

...this.
What the fuck is this? We waited for 15 years, just to get a remaster? It's literally a one-to-one. All the games got is a facelift. Pokemon Company even said there's no new pokemon to be added past the DPPt dex. So they're doing exactly what the community said they didn't like? Also, GameFreak isn't even developing the remakes. It's fucking Steve from accounting. I mean ILCA.
Anyways, it's clear that the Pokemon Company just doesn't give much of a fuck about the generation 4 remakes. At least that's what it seems on the surface.
Shortly after, we got gold though.
We finally did it, we got Breath of the Wild. I mean, open world Pokemon. Now there's a lot that could be said about Myths God, or Legends Arceus, but I have high hopes for it. GameFreak is actually developing Legends, and it seems to be everything the community has wanted for the last insert x years here since we went 3D.
It's a little rough on the edges, but I'm fully confident it will be great when it comes out. That aside though, we've clambered and begged for 4th gen remakes for years. There are memes about it almost as old as the games themselves. So while I'm glad we're getting Legends, why did GameFreak feed us table scraps for dinner and pussy for dessert?
Signed, an upset Pocket Monsters fan. Alright, gamers, discuss.
