There are a lot of variables with social engineering - nothing Is set In stone.

There could've been so many reasons why they didn't bother to check your device. My post Is referring to the likelihood of It happening, and also to play It safe by waiting until the claim has been finalized and the funds have cleared Into your account.

I 100% agree with you. I shouldn't have used my device before the SE was successful, and the same advice applies to OP. I just thought it would be worth mentioning.

UPS dropped the Apple Watch off in front of my second home without a signature (on one of the biggest streets in my city), I said I didn't receive it + probably stolen, instant refund
I'm sending the Airpods back tomorrow, I'll let you know within a week

I made a mistake though, UPS uses the tracking number when receiving and sending the item, their scanner is unable to read Maxicodes
the maxicode is used internally for the routing of the package

because if UPS didn't use the tracking number (so only the Maxicode), I could have completely falsified the tracking number and the package would be undetectable by Apple once delivered but displayed as delivered using Maxicode

unfortunately the delivery man has to scan the tracking number before handing over the package, which makes it essential and Apple can still track me
