So, I have decided to build a gaming PC for the first time. It will be a pandemic project with my son. Does anyone have suggestions on a good build around a $1,500 price range?

If you'd like a PCPartPicker list I can make one so you can get a bit more detail. But, just for an idea, you can definitely get a Ryzen 7 CPU, 32GB RAM, RTX 2070. That's just my suggestion. You can always upgrade or downgrade some components.

I agree with the recommendations shared here. Boot from an SSD and consider getting a separate HDD for storing your games, movies, music, etc. Get at least 16GB of RAM. Sounds like a fun project!

$1,500 is a great budget for a PC. You will be able to build with near top of the line specs at that price range. Here's a video from a month ago that goes over a build in that range:



Only recommendation I'd make is probably to switch from the i5 processor that he suggests to using a Ryzen 7, but that's entirely up to you and if the Intel name is what you want it will serve you well.

This Is precisely my setup on every system.

The SSD as the boot drive, literally takes 8-10 seconds to cold boot fully Into the Windows environment.

Get at least 16GB of RAM.

Unless you're only hitting Likes on Facebook, 16 GB Is the minimum nowadays.
