Favorite Chat site/app? #1
Which one do you prefer and why?

I prefer discord because it's easy and very friendly to have large groups of people in one room. I used to like skype in the past, but didn't like the group chat aspect of it.

Pertaining to this board, communication via posts (obviously) PM and Discord.

I don't deal with social media, so that's completely out of the equation. From a personal standpoint, I don't have anyone who understands my computing, so conversations are all about their Interests which I try to avoid.

Basically the same, but I do prefer IRC as a great way to find people of my interest. Recently, I try to accommodate with Discord, but so far I'm not doing so great.

Oh I'm sorry completely forgot about IRC haha. I haven't used IRC in years, surprised people still use it daily.

I'm with you on this.

IRC has been around since the late 80s and whilst It was commonly used many years ago, It's somewhat dormant nowadays.

I'm not gonna lie I use discord more than my message apps. If it's not discord I'm on iMessage or WhatsApp talking to close friends or family. I think the reason for this is most probably cause I don't have an Instagram or snapchat so I don't use those to message people.

Imessage is nice, but I really don't like being tied into the apple ecosystem. You can't use it anywhere else. But, yes it is nice.

Snap is dying lol and instagram seems like a big free marketing ad for companies.

I have issues with all of them. Discord is a resource heavy closed source bundle of JS on top of Chromium, but the UI is pretty good and it's used a lot. IRC has limitations, and I prefer Discord's 'Guild':Channel setup rather than IRCs just-channel one (since most people don't want to self-host at least), also the protocol doesn't allow for things like image transfer, so you have stuff like DCC which feels hackish and is an awful experience in comparison to the direct image embedding you get with modern chat services. Riot.im/Matrix and Tox seem kinda neat, but nobody uses them.

In-person is stressful.
