Factories Built, Intel's 7nm Chips Due 2033 #1
Between Intel's delays and the scalping of AMDs, I'm very curious to see what 2022/2023 brings.

Quote:Intel's new CEO, Pat Gelsinger, isn't wasting any time in ramping up the company's engineering capabilities. In a press conference today, he announced the company's "IDM 2.0" strategy, which kicks off with a $20 billion investment in two Arizona fabrication plants. That'll make Intel a stronger force in the chipmaking business, both when it comes to making its own hardware, as well as chips for partners. Additionally, Gelsinger revealed that the company's first 7nm chip, the long-delayed Meteor Lake, will have its design finalized in the second quarter of this year. We won't see that CPU ship until 2023, however, a year later than the company previously suggested.

“Intel is the only company with the depth and breadth of software, silicon and platforms, packaging, and process with at-scale manufacturing customers can depend on for their next-generation innovations," Gelsinger said in a blog post. "IDM 2.0 is an elegant strategy that only Intel can deliver – and it’s a winning formula.”

Im not the best on PC hardware, but I think that AMD, compared to Nvidia, tends to work better with linux.
If I remember it correctly, Nvidia struggles because it doesnt support open-scource software, only proprietary,
in the same way as AMD, that even collaborates with open-scource projects, etc.
Maybe AMD will get an upper hand now? hmmmm.

This article is referring to the upcoming 7nm architecture for CPUs. Nvidia doesn't really make CPUs, unless we're talking about Tegra.

What you're saying could be true for GPUs, though Nvidia tends to have the best support when it comes to games (which cater towards Windows).

Unless you mean graphic cards Smile Afaik. nVidia relies only on proprietary. But when it comes to CPU's and those things..... Im no expert hehe

Are they really that late to 7nm?

It seems so. I believe 2022 was the original date planned.

So AMD's got almost 2 years to really put the screws to Intel. This will be really interesting to see play out.

Seems like cpu gains aren't as substantial as they used to be. Waited longer and longer to upgrade a pc over time (probably going to wait 8-10 years on this one). The extra cores just don't seem worth the upgrade, Only thing else missing out on is marginal increase in processing speed and slightly lower power draw than before
