Facial Recognition Is Coming To US Airports #1
Facial recognition systems will be coming to U.S. airports in the very near future. "Customs and Border Protection first started testing facial recognition systems at Dulles Airport in 2015, then expanded the tests to New York's JFK Airport last year," reports The Verge. "Now, a new project is poised to bring those same systems to every international airport in America."
Called Biometric Exit, the project would use facial matching systems to identify every visa holder as they leave the country. Passengers would have their photos taken immediately before boarding, to be matched with the passport-style photos provided with the visa application. If there's no match in the system, it could be evidence that the visitor entered the country illegally. The system is currently being tested on a single flight from Atlanta to Tokyo, but after being expedited by the Trump administration, it's expected to expand to more airports this summer, eventually rolling out to every international flight and border crossing in the U.S. U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Larry Panetta, who took over the airport portion of the project in February, explained the advantages of facial recognition at the Border Security Expo last week. "Facial recognition is the path forward we're working on," Panetta said at the conference. "We currently have everyone's photo, so we don't need to do any sort of enrollment. We have access to the Department of State records so we have photos of U.S. Citizens, we have visa photos, we have photos of people when they cross into the U.S. and their biometrics are captured into [DHS biometric database] IDENT."

I highly doubt they are using thermal in this capacity, while it is good for overall shapes, getting clear details with thermal is very hard to do and facial recognition needs specific details in order to properly "flag" someone.
They will either be using Google's algorithm (which goes through a database matching points)or the Russian one(which is slightly broader because it tries to match up the picture of you to it's photo database, it sounds slow but it has proven to be faster and more accurate than Googles as long as the subject has images of them), the reason they won't be using the Government's algorithm is because it needs to match a very specific series of points (like fingerprints) and can easily be fooled by tricks with hair, clothing, and sunglasses.

Starts avoiding airports...

Seriously though, this is nothing new. Its employed in a lot of places. In fact, I'm surprised they only started this now... So surprised, that I don't believe it.

I think that that already have it, and are only making it public now. That, or they are upgrading to a better recognition system, and decided to make it public.

Maybe they just upgraded it, because I think there already exists a facial recognizition software that would recognize faces through different properties of the face (distance between eyes, how wide your mouth is, size of your head...), if I remeber correctly.

Biometrics Is slowly taking over Identity authentication.

The links you've provided are very Informative, In fact, I'm quite surprised just how easy It Is to bypass facial recognition.

I have mixed feelings about this.

On one side, this will surely benefit the country's security, if not the whole worlds' since it will be somewhat easier to track "illegal" people down, especially during the difficult time we are currently living in.

On the other side, this is another infringement of privacy (I guess?) since there will be pictures taken of you without your constent, or they simply force you to consent to it, otherwise there will be no boarding.
( not like they don't have enough information on you already...)

Yeah they've had it. The main thing is proper recognition is being implemented, something that hasn't been done yet, at least not in the US. I don't fly enough to be bothered by this, but still pretty easy to bypass.
