Editing Build property of your Android device not only gives more control to your device but also tweaks it to your own requirements. Here is a complete list of things you can do by just changing contents of a file in Android System.

[Note: I am the original author of this post, but I must give credits to the devs at the XDA forums from where the idea originated. ]

Your Android device should be rooted to use this. (you can get information about rooting your device at XDA forum, the best place in this trade)

Now that your device is rooted you have super-access to the system files on your device.
Get a Root file explorer like ES Explorer, Root explorer etc. I highly recommend Explore from Lonely cat Games.

Step 1: Using the file explorer of your choice navigate to this directory:
root/system/ and open the build.prop file in a text editor.

Step 2: You will find a lot of lines with values declared against them.


Step 3: Thats it. Now you can start changing the values es following.

Current android version on phone
ro.build.version.release=4.2.2
(change it to 5.3.1 and brag your friends that you got latest version of Android on your phone)


Model no. and Manufacturer
ro.product.model=GT-I9082
ro.product.brand=samsung
(you can change them to any other model or brand you want, to trick google play, in case it says a particular app is not supported on your device)

Disable Boot Animation
debug.sf.nobootanimation=1/0


Setup Wizard Enable/Disable
ro.setupwizard.mode=DISABLED/ENABLED

Disable sending usage data to Google*IMPORTANT*
ro.config.nocheckin=1


This list is very long and you can change almost every property of your device here. So, start exploring on your own now.
Remember: Backup the original build.prop file beforehand, in case you mess up with any settings.

[If the edited file is not being saved with the same name ie. build.prop, save it somewhere else and then delete the original build.prop(make sure its backuped) and then paste the edited one in original directory(root/system/build.prop)]

No. Not really. You're not going to brick your device fas far as i know. In worst case scenario if there is any fatal modification to the build.prop file that may lead to improper working of the system, the system will automatically generate a new build.prop file and replace the modified one. There is a file called buildinfo.sh in the same directory which will generate this new build.prop file with default values.

don't forget, add:
ro.sf.lcd_density=***

replace *** with any threee numbers, the smaller the value the bigger the density.
to increase density display on your android device. EG: more menu items show and less scrolling. I prefer to use 130 though my device came with 170 on default.

Try it, It must work if you have your device rooted.

[EDIT] I forgot to mention, If the file is not being replaced in system directory, you have to save it somewhere else than the root directory. Save it in your Sdcard bro. And then move and replace it to the system directory.
