In a theoretical sense, is it possible to somehow social engineer an engine on ebay from a seller who custom makes engines ? Or is it just easier to do other items sell those and then just legitimately purchase such a big item? $10k

My general rule is do not SE small businesses or individual sellers/custom shops like that. I'd just SE other things from multiple large corps and sell them to pay for the bigger item.

^ This.

Always target companies on a medium to large scale.
