I like your approach. I'm going to try and get more out of my serials for expensive products.

It can be very beneficial to be creative and flexible. Whenever there's any sort of discrepancy with the shipment or anything, I try to capitalize on it. Not long ago I ordered something from Ikea that had a bunch of glass in it. For some reason, I got a notification from Fedex saying the item was damage in-transit. I called Ikea and they sent out a replacement. When the original "damaged" one arrived, it was totally fine. I actually needed 2 of these and had ordered the first as a test to see if it would work for my needs, not planning on SEing it.
