Duracell investigation #1
Not sure if this belongs in the Duracell thread or I should start a new one because of the nature of it.

So I've been trying the duracell method except with their larger camera batteries instead of the AA/AAA stuff.

I've said that its leaked inside my camera and shorted out my camera now, so they've asked me to send in my camera for them to inspect it and see what can be done about it or how to fix it.

Any idea how to get out of this? I may have a broken camera that uses that type of battery, but failing that I can't find it. Any idea how to get out of this inspection?

Admins please delete if its deemed it belongs in the Duracell thread.

Tell them that you threw the camera away because, you were afraid that the leakage could have hurt your children.

Hang on, I'm not sure if that would be a pro or a con as by the sounds of it, Duracell might actually be wanting to fork out more money to replace the camera instead of just the batteries. While the batteries are only totaling around £50, if I can get them to replace the camera. That'd be quite a bit more.

If I'm just trying to get a refund for £50, that'd be all fine and dandy, but if I can get Duracell to pay for a damaged camera body. That could work up quite a substantial amount more because of the type of camera in question. Works up to around £500-1000 depending on which camera I can declare thats missing.

I'm not sure if boxing them would work to get out of the investigation, camera is around 1.2kg

Mhm I see, you could say that your post office doesn't let you ship hazardous materials.
I don't know if boxing could work, I have never done it.
Maybe someone else here has a better idea to get around this.

True. Say that due to the fact it may have remaining battery acid in it, my post office won't take it. Have a suspicion they'll send a courier down to collect. Which in that respects I'm not quite sure how to get out of it, if they send people down.

Personally I would determine if Duracell are in fact looking to reimburse the full cost of the camera.
If they aren't then why bother?

You should get a free batterie out of it either way.

I'd assume they are considering they've said something about enhanced customer care for Duracell? Any idea how to confirm if they are replacing the camera without setting off alarm bells?

You should be able to just ask them straight up. Ask if they plan to reimburse you for the camera because if they aren't you don't want to send it and you would rather try to get it repaired.

Did they mention how the camera should be sent?

Carrier (tracking), registered post etc?
