Dry Ice method fucking sucks #1
I boxed a 3lb package using dry ice, and dropped it off right when FedEx was closing for the weekend, so that the dry ice could subliminate overnight.

On Monday, they updated the tracking weight to reflect the weight of empty box after sublimination! The tracking doesn't show 3lbs anymore.

The dry ice method probably doesn't work for FedEx.

So you have proof that you left a 3lbs box and it left FedEx an empty box? Isn't that a "proof" that it was tempered with?

You can’t expect an automatic refund, of course you need to contact the company and tell them of the story you’re making. You can’t expect a refund in the spot. Contact Fedex or the company you’re refunding after they receive the empty box and tell you about it, and then tell the story and with THEIR investigation they will see the whole thing.
Just think in this way, when you legit returned something, dis you go and check on the registered weight of the carrier? I honestly never did it.

Did they measured the weight upon you drop it off in front of you when they got the package? If yes the weight should be 3lbs if they decided to weight it on Monday and upload the info on Monday that explains alot..

They weighed the package once when I dropped it off, and then updated the weight on Monday.

I'm not expecting an automatic refund. I'm in the middle of SE'ing a company right now, and the support representative pointed out the unusually light package weight. My SE might fail because of this detail.

The problem is that the company doesn't have the original package weight, so they might assume you just sent a package less than 3lbs.
