Doxing / OSINT - Section #1
Section Suggestion

I would like to suggest we get a doxing section on the forum.

We have a social engineering section, and doxing can be a big part of this. Looking up details of a person or company before doing the social engineering so you are as prepared as you can be. Even just doxing itself can be useful with all the people we encounter on the internet today. If you meet someone, you could do some checks to make sure they are who they say they are. Lots of people get scammed and want information to either try to contact the person or pass it onto others to deal with the problem. Some may be doing it as a career, or just enjoy it as a hobby like me.

So, this could be a sub-forum of the social engineering section.

This would personally be my favourite section, and i'm sure it would bring more people to the forum.

RE: Doxing / OSINT - Section #2
Considering that we're already talking about reforming the SE section, I could see this being a good addition to put in place. While it's not strictly limited to the scope of SE, it is a critical part of it.

RE: Doxing / OSINT - Section #3
Doxing is generally frowned upon by the users here, for obbvious reasons. We really dont want a bunch of our users going around doxing each other. However, I'm not entirely sure how its used in the context of SE.

Well in SE, maybe not so much getting items with receipts and stuff. I think that is what Phyrrus meant in his SE post, there are two different ways people consider SE being. The other one would be talking to people to get information from them whether it be a friend of the target or a company. If you wanted a specific piece of information from a company on a target, you can't just phone up with a name and get the information, you will most likely need to know more information about the person first. So using open source intelligence, you can find out more about the target first.

I don't see why users would be doxing each other on here either, if really needed, make a rule against doxing users on the forum. It's more for people outside of it.

I just think it's another thing to add to the forum that could bring in new members as well.

One question too, you say doxing is frowned upon "for obvious reasons", what are those reasons? There are people here using SE to just get free things out of companies that they don't want to buy, when there is stuff like that, what is so bad about doxing?

I hope this doesn't sound argumentative or anything, it is a serious question and I just want this to be a thing on here.

Thanks.

RE: Doxing / OSINT - Section #5
Based on external grounds (doxing Is not permitted on anyone within the confines of this board), I believe "Information gathering" would be a better way of putting It.

That said, there can be a fine line between doing just that and Invasion of privacy- whether It be on a personal level, or the entity of whom the Information Is collected.

RE: Doxing / OSINT - Section #6
I don't agree with this purely on the fact that doxing is discussed very little here which would result in a dead subforum.

RE: Doxing / OSINT - Section #7
I don't know if there should be a doxing subforum would be necessary, cause it's very little discussed here. I'd rather have a general OSINT - section, which doxing could be placed in as well.
~~ Might be back? ~~

RE: Doxing / OSINT - Section #8
I disagree with a new doxing subforum in the social engineering section. It's not neccessary, it is not discussed a lot on the forum here and if you would like to discuss it, you can just put it in the social engineering section. No subforum needed in my opinion.

RE: Doxing / OSINT - Section #9
I mean, technically this against the rules.. It it not?

Doxing is illegal I'm pretty sure, and that would be illegal content.

Edit: This also falls under the "Respecting Others" category of the rules:
"Respect the privacy of other users."

RE: Doxing / OSINT - Section #10
Ok I guess it's a bad idea for this forum as people don't seem to like it.

But to Bish0pQ, my original idea was for a main section but I was advised against it.

To Synthx, I don't believe doxing is illegal, it's what people do with the information they find that can be illegal. I prefer the term OSINT, which is only info you can find from public sources, which is what I do, doxing is anything else private too, which I don't do, it's just that people prefer that term more in general. Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't the SE that people talk about on this forum illegal? Basically scamming businesses out of products, not paying for them. Also I even said that there could be a rule against doxing people on this forum, it was never about people on this forum, it's how people here can find information they need on other people elsewhere. Don't people share hacking tools and techniques on here? Aren't you concerned we may start hacking each other?

Anyway, people don't seem to like this idea so I guess it's best that it doesn't happen.

Thanks anyway.
