Does anyone do 'lost card' refunds at retail stores? #1
Just successfully did this at Target, now I won't say this is smart to do more than once a year or anything. But in a case where you can just swipe your credit card at a location, and they don't ask for ID or a signature, it seems like you can just buy what you want in person (with a mask on) and say you lost the card and don't recognize the transaction.

Thoughts?

You better take an uber or smth in this case bc they might capture your license plate outside.
I plead the fifth.

above a certain amount, depending on the bank and the country, you have to enter the PIN linked to the card

generally this amount is not very high, it is not worth risking a police investigation for that

^ This.

Also when "tapping" on some terminals, you don't need to enter a PIN but If you "swipe" on the very same terminal, a PIN Is required. There are a lot of variables depending on where you're located, as well as the nature of the store/merchant.

This is in the US but so far (xbox/499) nothing was asked for, no pin or ID

Glad I take public transportation though according to the other guy

interesting to know that you have such a high limit, in France it is 50€ for example and in Canada 250$.
not high enough to risk anything

I did an electronics store because I figured the employees would be very lax.

I just told my credit card company (Amex) I lost my card and don't recognize the transaction, they sent a new one in the mail, cancelled the old one. The credit was given in about 2 days, the investigation was completed in two weeks.

You can do similar by giving your bank details to someone you know and get them to order something. Say order an iPhone to an Amazon locker for next day. Contact bank and say your card details have been used and it wasn't you. They will see it was used on a different IP and device than you normally use and give you the money back. Just got to be careful as sometimes police can get involved.

When my brother legit lost his card someone ordered a MacBook to their home address with it, police waited outside for delivery and caught they guy who ordered it once he received it.

Safest way to do this if you want to fleece your own bank is to get burner phone on public WiFi transfer a big some of money over a site like wise. As long as it was from a new device and IP that you've never used on your card before they will give you money back.
