I haven't personally dealt with Best Buy, but have come across users claiming that a police report was requested.

If so, why not simply file one?

I don't feel comfortable going into the local police station to file a report. I'm not sure if Toronto has an option to file one online though, that'd be so much better tbh.

In terms of filing an online report, call the police station and ask whether It can be done. Alternatively, If they have a website, check there.
