Differentiating Anime the term 07-03-2016, 10:20 AM
#1
So, it turns out that in Japan, the word "Anime" (or their version of) actually refers to all types of animation all around the world. It makes sense since it's short for animation and not specified. However, in English speaking cultures at least, "Anime" refers specifically to Japanese animation. Does anybody know if they have a word that differentiates the animation types that we refer to as Anime from the other animation types (like Disney for a cringey example)?
Or do they just use the more general term "Anime" anyway?

I think they just call it anime and everyone immediately picks it up as japanese animation because it's probably the most popular type of animation over there.
I am not completely sure however as I haven't heard any other terms for it yet.

If someone says "anime", I think of Japanese animation. People don't normally use the word to refer to American cartoons.

Didn't know it was such a broad term in Japan. I always think of anime as in AoT or Naruto not Calliou lol.
