Delivery address question for SE #1
People say use a fake name for your address

I live in the UK, if I'm not in likely i'll get a postcard thru the door and told they will try again tomorrow, otherwise I can collect it from them.

if i want to collect it from them and I don't have any ID for the same name they won't let me collect it, or am i wrong?

Royal mail website is as follows:

Quote:If you're collecting mail for someone else, please bring the postcardcard and one of the above items in the name of the person the item is addressed to.

If the above is not available in the name of the person the item is addressed to, the person collecting the item will need to bring:

The Something for you postcard or Fee to pay postcard
Photo ID of themselves (driving licence*, passport, foreign national ID, military ID postcard , police warrant postcard , Royal Mail employee postcard , NHS medical postcard or senior citizen bus pass)
Proof they live at the specific address the postcard was delivered to (driving licence*, b ank statement, television licence, utility bill or home insurance certificate)
* We will accept a photocard driving licence as both photo ID and proof of address.

Yes if you use a fake name and go to collect it you are unable to. Best option is leave it with a trusted neighbour

Do they only visually check the ID, or take a copy as well?

Yes, I know they check, but do they also keep a "copy" by way of photocopying the ID?

That's good.

As far as you're concerned, someone else picked up the package (not yourself), hence It comes down to human error on their end, by providing the package to the wrong person. They have no record to cross-check details. Have a look whether there's CCTV cameras In place, though.
