" How the hell did it seemingly become common for folks to not think that they actually had to return the item that they are attempting to return?????
Is there some retailer out there that I don't know about giving away free cash in exchange for vague complaints and promises?? I'll happily state that I was dissatisfied with my recent purchase of a mega yacht in exchange
for the retail price. "

" We actually do have a way to return items without them being in front of us, but it's only for very extreme situations. Think of a situation where it would be more dangerous for the customer to bring it in than just to toss
it in the trash. And even then, we have to get a lot of documentation from the customer to verify that they're telling the truth. Ive done it once, and that was under a manager's supervision. The one time it happened, a
customer had a glass display case delivered, it came shattered (I think the delivery guys dropped it) and she didn't want to start scooping up broken glass. My manager didn't want to take in a
bunch of broken glass, either, so she said to just toss it and gave her a refund. She had photos and a customer service file proving that she called in almost the moment the delivery guys left. "

Where did you find this conversation? It might be interesting to follow such users who give free SE sensitive advice.
Well, a subreddit for customeradvice would be a good source. Surely there is a specific subreddit with a high amount of customer support people on it sharing stories. It must exist because the demographic of people who do this job goes hand in hand with people who browse reddit.
