DIY IRC Server #1
Is anyone else interested in IRC Servers and Chatrooms as I am? I've recently taken interest in anonymous chatting and stumbled upon IRC. Which is pretty dope. I've been using free public IRC Servers, however, It really gives me anxiety to be using them because I have no way of knowing whether the IRCD is being sniffed or not. SSL will hide my traffic from my ISP but anyone with access to the IRCD can read everything I say. I have heard of OTR plugins but haven't heard any witnesses telling me if they are actually useful or not.  I've only recently decided to make my own IRC server with a raspberry pi model b+. I encourage anyone with knowledge on IRC or setting up a server to help me out with this project since I am only a beginner in IT Security and still learning. I'd like for my server to become a big server where anyone can communicate anonymously! If anyone is interested in helping me PM me anytime.

OTR is awesome because it encrypts your chat end to end using public key cryptography.
About setting up your server: I recommend unrealircd, it's lightweight and open-source I have it running on my RaspberryPI 2 model B, I had no problems running it.
The setup of unrealircd is pretty straight forward, but if you need any help I'm happy to help.

Do you Know any OTR's that you trust? Heard about this one? https://github.com/cryptodotis/irssi-otr I've heard of unrealircd but how trustworthy is it? I'm trying to make something that only I can control you feel?
I was checking out this article http://www.codeography.com/2012/09/23/ho...erver.html . It seems solid what do you think? Port forwarding it mush be easy.

Never tried irssi-otr, I use Pidgin and an ORT plugin by cypherpunks
Unrealircd should be trustworthy, I mean it's open-source and I've never heard bad things about it. And yes, only you (if not specified otherwise) have full control of your server.
ircd-hybrid is nice I've heard great things about it, but never tried setting it up.
Port forwarding is a piece of cake.
