Couple of questions regarding the Partial Refund method for Amazon #1
Hope everyone is doing well, I'm back and I'm eyeing the partial refund method for what I'm trying to SE. I'm going to try to SE two ssd's that are each around 86g, combined 172g (.38lbs). The item that will be used to weigh down the package are some batteries from AmazonBasics that weigh around 5.28lbs. A couple of questions before I start:

1. Is this enough weight offset to legitimize my claim? Or should I try and find a heavier item for extra believability?
2. Is it possible to partially refund two things or is one the most they'll allow?
3. How successful are partial refund compared to other methods?

Extra Question: Would a new account trigger a flag if I try to refund a, say, $200 item? Or should I age the account some more to provide a more legitimate scenario?

Let me know if I'm going about this in the wrong way. Any input is appreciated

On the grounds that an Investigation Is opened, It's too heavy for the partial method.

It won't make any difference.

They'll simply deduct the weight of the batteries from the consignment, and the balance (weight) will determine whether the SSDs were enclosed.

Ahh, what would be the sweet spot for an item's weight to warrant a partial refund then?

If a carrier rounds up the weight, would the weight of the item (the one being SE'd) even factor into the equation?

Let's say an item is like 3.6lbs and gets rounded to 4lbs and the SE'd item is .1-4lbs, would they note the discrepancy, since the package as a whole is being rounded to 4lbs regardless?

A maximum of 120 grams.

It depends on the Increment the package Is rounded.

Firstly, Items don't get rounded.

Assuming the SEd Item Is 1.4lbs (or even 1lb for that matter) and given the other one Is rounded to 4lbs, the entire package cannot be rounded up to 4lbs. When rounding, they go by the nearest figure.

Sorry, that was my bad, I wrote this like half asleep haha. What I meant was if an item was 3.6lbs and was sent as is, without another item, would the package be rounded up to 4lbs? If there were another item, an item weighing around 0.1lbs-0.4lbs along with the 3.6lbs item, in a single package, would the carrier even note the weight discrepancy between the two items since it would've been rounded up to 4lbs regardless? That was a non sleep-deprived version of my question lmao

Regardless, I was still off the mark by a lot. You said that it was dependent on the increment. I did some searching and you were right, I guess I never noticed that. I always assumed that carriers rounded the weight of a package if it's close enough to the next number or too short of making it to the next increment. It makes much more sense that the weight difference shouldn't be too significant. I can do a single SSD, which is 86g, I think that should be good enough. Thanks for the input!

Side question: I assume the empty box method works by the same principles or is it even more strict as even a minuscule weight difference indicates that there was a item in the package?

The objective of the missing Item method, Is to select an Item that's light enough to not register a weight on consignment.

As such, they cannot question something that hasn't been detected and recorded on their weighing facilities.

Good to know, thanks. I'll probably utilize this method in the future, was curious on how it worked. I needed other methods to diversify my SE portfolio other than ol' reliable wrong item method, lol. I'll get started on the partial refund claim and update everyone as I progress.

Gave it a look and it's super well-formulated and informative, I actually might just sit down for a whole day and just read up. I was reading the section on the partial method and was curious, if an item is already small enough to not register upon consignment, why wouldn't someone just do the missing item method? (Considering this, I might just do missing instead of partial honestly) Is the partial method more plausible from a claims standpoint or does it exist to be able to se multiple items at once?

You've raised a very good question, but there Is a reason for It.

The likelihood of pickers & packers making an error on one order with (for example) 10 Items, Is significantly higher than a single Item. Moreover, some warehouses find It somewhat difficult to track the movements of every Item that was picked on the same order.
An analogy Is when you do your grocery shopping- If It's one food commodity that you urgently need, you'd remember It. If you had a list of 10-15 or more, you'd probably forget to grab one.
