I like that C because it gives me the ability to control hardware and also to improve the performance it ... I like that fact that it is close to the human language and there are not too much syntax to remember ...

I think its a stretch to call C a high level language. A lot of low level projects have been done in C. Heck, linux was coded in C (sort of).

high level languages create an abstraction layer from the operation and design of the computer hardware and does so in a manner that makes it easier for us humans to read. this imo, defines C as a high level language.
now since it does allow direct memory addressing and lacks certain features of modern programming languages, i would concede that you might be willing to call it a mid-level language. but for decades it was a high-level language. merely because newer languages have gotten higher doesnt really change this.
i would absolutely say it is not a low-level language, imo.
