Boxing without dry ice? #1
I never go to the post office, so maybe it's nothing new, but thought it could be worth a shot.
I went to royal mail today (not SE related), the clerk scanned my label, then I had to put it on the scale, and once it weighted the package and the clerk gave me the receipt, I had to bring it myself to the end of the post office, and put it with the other packages that people sent.
I don't know if this system is new, I assume it's because of Covid, so that less employees would be touching the packages.

Anyway, my thought is: wouldn't it be possible to fake the weight on the first scale, maybe by having a small weight held with blue tack under the package, that you can remove afterwards?
Of course it would be hard to do with heavy packages, but maybe for 1 to 5kg?

What do you think? Would royal mail wonder about the missing weight later on, if they have to weight it again?

I don't think I'd try it myself as I'm really not confident in public, and would turn bright red, but I hope the idea can help you guys.

I went to a local post office inside a pharmacy and I placed a large power bank I have on the scale hidden behind the package, i then picked it up with box and dropped it where he said to.

Once it is originally weighed, a receipt is printed with the weight on it. I highly doubt it gets weighed after that. The weight on the receipt is your "proof" that you sent the item, on the date, and the item weight is there.

The package will be taken to their depot, and weights & dimensions are taken for record keeping and cost of freight.

Along with other packages, It's then sorted and allocated to Its designated area In readiness to be delivered.

Would they still ship it though? I mean if Amazon (or other), see during their investigation that it was packaged with the proper weight, and along the way it got "stolen", would they still investigate? Do you think there'd be an investigation at the post office?

If the driver did not raise a damage report at the collection point, It will release the carrier from liability.

If an Investigation Is opened, they will cross-check the dispatched weight with the carrier's records and If both match, the Item could not have been missing.
