Boxing Method #1
Hey, quick question for you guys.

I am returning a laptop to a company and they sent me a prepaid shipping label. Would it be possible to just send an empty box to them and keep the laptop and claim that the laptop must have been stolen in transit? The original shipping label stated the package was 4lbs but the prepaid shipping label they sent me says 7lbs for some reason. Will UPS weigh the package before it is put on the truck?

Thank you

Goods are weighed on consignment, and given the weight of the laptop, the SE will fail.

You need to justify the weight with that of the laptop- such as using dry Ice. It sublimates (turns to carbon dioxide) during transit, hence when the package Is received, there will be no visible signs of the dry Ice, nor any remnants. Of course, the package must have an appearance consistent with tampering.

Yeah I've always heard of the dry ice method but i've seen that it isn't very feasible in most situations.

Now im just curious, In what SEing scenario would boxing work without dry ice?

Btw, thanks for being so helpful on this forum, mothered. this is probably the most helpful forum out there right now for SE.

Any Item that's light enough to not register a weight of consignment.

Some carriers round up the weight to the nearest figure, so In this case heavier Items can be used. That said, you never know for sure whether It will be rounded, so It can be risky.

Ahhhh that makes sense, at that point might as well just claim empty box right? Don't really see boxing being any better than the empty box method...

If It's the laptop you're referring to, due to It's (significant) weight, you cannot box them or using the empty box/missing Item method.

The only way to box them, Is to substitute the weight with something that's roughly the same.

Wouldn't the company be confused that they received something other than the laptop (i.e. stack of paper)? I'm not going to box this company, but for future refunds this is useful info.

As long as it's something they sell, nothing stops them from sending the wrong box.

Picking errors occur on a daily basis.

As long as It's a "stock Item" that's part of their Inventory, then It comes down to such errors.
