What about buying air pods from argos, collecting them and then replacing with cheap knock off one for a fiver.. And returning those. Will this work? The rep at the counter won't know.. But will it get clocked later on and will I be called up on it?

What makes you say the rep at the counter will not know?

For all you know they are trained to check serial numbers on the pods.
