Are grades in highschool important? 02-15-2014, 09:16 PM

I take all honors classes (will be doing some AP too), and pass them all, with around a 70-80. Do colleges really look at grades, or is passing enough?

Colleges do look at high school grades, they pretty much look at your rank in your class. If you're in the top 10% of your class, colleges will choose you over people who are in the lower 90% any day.
AP and Honors classes tend to be graded on a higher grade point average as well, so you have a better chance over others.
In my case: I'm in both high school and college, I'll be graduating with an associates degree in college along with my high school diploma. So high school grades won't be AS Important for me because of the college degree, but for you - I would definitely recommend trying to stay in the top 10%, study for the SAT, and you can get into almost any college you want to.

Yes. Once you hit 11th grade, instead of academic and applied, it turns to university, mixed, and college. This is where it all matters.
You are supposed to try in high school, not for grades, but for knowledge.

High school grades are important for college. College grades are important for jobs. Though many college graduates today remain jobless.
