Apple is chill until they're not. Usually they have a 1 time courtesy refund per address, however sometimes they decide to tell you you will be refunded/replaced and then 1 day later you get an email stating that they will not be making any decisions and leave you hanging. And if you try to call them, they just refer you to local authorities. No help whatsoever. Apple has become a hit or miss from my experience. You can always return the apple product however even if you get the claim denial email.

quick question -- I'm not seeing a live chat option for Apple orders in Canada -- only a phone option. Can I still SE through phone?

it is there if you dig deep enough for it, they make it so you have to contact them for a seperate product/issue and then just bring up the actual SE in the conversation once you are connected.

Still, I dont think it mattered in my case. I'm no actor & wont reveal the details, but the call was some elite-tier SE imho.
Went extremely smooth, I could really tell the poor rep felt pretty bad (no, not the fake-ass "sir oh no we as a company are deeply sorry")
... I mean actual, guenine guilt. I could tell she really wanted to help, even asked her manager for some gift as a bonus of the actual replacement...

Then all of it was denied at next step by the dedicated team.
It is the only step that matters, as far as I'm concerned.

I noticed that 90% of the Apple SE's I've done that failed were after I call in. I've had significantly bigger success rate through live chat. It always goes the way you've described.
