Anime Review Guide 07-17-2015, 07:40 PM

Hello everyone, I had originally posted this on another forum. Since I am dedicating most of my time to this one, I have deleted it from there and decided to contribute it here and make it an exclusive to SL. Thank you for taking the time to read. Please feel free to make your own post for anime reviews. Manga reviews also welcome! For those who have seen this on another site and are wondering if I'll be bringing it back, yes I will but I will improve it there as well as here.
It's been a while since I've made a thread. So, I decided I would create a thread that would help members create more reviews of their favourite anime and manga and share it with other members here. If you find this helpful, I ask for nothing other than you reply to the thread if you feel necessary in order to help keep the thread alive. If you have any tips or suggestions that would help better this thread, I am completely open to suggestions. Feel free to consider sending me a private message so that I am sure to see it as I'm always very quick to see and usually reply to private messages as soon as I see them.
So, at the beginning of your review, it would be very helpful to name what anime you're reviewing in your post. Feel free to also include alternate names for the anime that you are reviewing. Some people might know an anime by one name, you might know it by another. A pretty basic example of this is Zankyou No Terror/Terror in Resonance. Feel free to also include why you are reviewing the anime. Whether it is because you really enjoyed it and wanted to write about it, or simply just wanna share the anime with other people and write a review for it to accomplish this task, that's your choice and I encourage you to review any anime you feel like.
Next, it would be very useful to write a summary of the anime/manga. By this, I mean a basic idea of the story that it tells. Include as much detail as you can here, but don't take it too far. Just give a basic explanation/summary. Be sure to not give away any spoilers, and if you do have spoilers anywhere in your review, be sure to warn the reader at the beginning of your thread, or put it in spoiler tags. That way, if someone does plan on reading/watching, they do not lose the suspense and excitement that would usually occur when watching something new that you are excited to see what happens next.
Now, you should include your overall opinion on the anime. Be sure to link things from the summary and basic concepts into your review to justify your opinion. Be sure to write what you really feel. Not everyone is ever going to agree with you with anything that you write. It's your review, which mean's it's how you feel about the anime. For example, some people might really despise something and another will love it. This can lead to arguments, but just be sure to handle them in the best way possible and just remember that a review is to help other users. They are always free to review other reviews of the anime and decide whether or not they wanna watch it or after they've watched it if other people dislike it or loved it.
Now, you can even give a rating out of 10, 5 whatever you want. The reason that I primarily recommend doing this is if people just wanna basic idea of what you think about the anime, they can take a look at your rating and get a basic idea of your feelings about the anime. If this doesn't settle it for you, you can always write a shortened review for people that don't have the team to read your full review if it is detailed. Personally, I recommend doing it out of 10, but I can't say I haven't authored any reviews online that I've used 5. 10 gives a bigger scale and will help the reader get an even better idea.
Now, I'm going to talk about another great thing to include. It's to rate specific things of the anime/manga. Let's say someone really loves the art aspect of anime more than anything else, and they wanna know your opinion on the artwork within. It's good to give a rating and even write a little bit about each category. Some great categories to critic are the basics like:
Even feel free to include many of your own choices. For example, in voice acting, talk about why you don't like the dub or why you choose the sub or vice versa.
If you're out of ideas and need a template for your review and not sure what exactly to take from these tips and make your own template, here's a basic one that I used for an anime review that I did on here.
Build on that. Add colours and design changes wherever you want. I just want you guys to post more anime reviews if possible.
Thanks for reading. If you need any assistance writing a review, don't even hesitate for a second to contact me through sinister.li.
