Honestly, 5 years with the thousands in purchase as you mention and only one small dna? Few months ago?
You can easily dna it if they flat out leave it at your door.

It can be DNA'd, but due to the Item's value, an OTP may be required on delivery.

If not, do expect a lengthy claims process.

It does work, but be aware that they'll ask the Item be returned- which you'll need to circumvent their request.

Alternatively, you can use the sealed box method or the wrong Item received.

Illegal to ship damaged batteries was my thought. Anyone had success with this? Will they find a way for me to ship the item back?

They may suggest alternative services.

You can also use the disposed the faulty Item method, whereby you threw It out due to health & safety concerns for your family.

One time I succeded by saying that i disposed it to waste collection center and had to provide them a document stating that by the waste collection center .
Another time they were very admant about needing the item in order to get a refund/replacement, so I boxed them

Damn thought it would be straight forward with battery method. Now I’m having second thoughts. Package is arriving Thursday from “Amazon warehouse’’ so it will be a open box item most likely .

What is the boxed method, this will be my first attempt for a SE item is a laptop 1500 dollars.

Any help and feedback is welcome.

The box method means that you make yourself look like you ship them the item back(obviously you don't ship your item back) and add tampering to the box to make it look like someone had stolen the item inside the box.
If it's a very light item, like less than 100g, you can manage to send them nothing; but in your case since the laptop must be pretty heavy, you have to send them dry ice, anyways won't be simple, I recommend you to read Mothered's website article about this method, were it get explained in detail.
