Do you know if they ask for the item to be reported lost or stolen ?

That's the purpose of a police report- to provide Information/reason on why the Item wasn't received.

Right but I was curious if they're specific.  I looked at an online reporting form and you pick between the two before proceeding.  Idk if Amazon cares, never filed one

I can't speak for each and every police report- they do/may differ from one locality to another.

At my local police station In my country, they do require specific reasons when filing a report, In this case, the grounds on which the Item wasn't received.
