Hi, can anyone share an example of a US police report? I understand that they check them, but still I don't want to file a real report.

This.
Why wouldn't you file a real report?
No matter where you're located, law enforcement globally makes use of 'Diary numbers' which are easy to verify. I wouldn't want to get caught trying to fake one and instead reported for fraud. It's really simple, you just call the department and tell them what happened, say that Amazon forces you to file a claim, and they'll automatically close down the investigation after x amount of time, they won't even look into it if you make it seem like a bs report done out of necessity with no real expectations.
Don't be stupid.

I strongly suggest not to falsify a PR.
You're misrepresenting a law enforcement agency, not your local fruit shop.

Generally with our forum, I figured this went without saying. However, recent discussion has led me to believe otherwise. People are encouraged to read and follow our rules, especially those regarding illegal content. You have been warned - @

I called the police station to report the theft over the phone. They said that it could not be done over the phone, you only had to come in person. I told them that I had a coronavirus and I could not come, but they said that I had to wait until I recovered and then come to the station.
I don't understand, are they lying or is it really true?
What should I do about it if I really can't come to the station?

Police don't lie, social engineers do.
For security reasons, some police stations do not allow to file a report over the phone. They need to verify you In person, hence request to attend the station personally.
