It's not as simple as Issuing a refund the moment they received your package/box.

An Investigation may be opened, and/or they'll contact you.

As I understand an investigation can imply also a police report, am I right?

It does for the most part.

So I ordered an item(phone). Contacted them as the battery of the device has been leaking. Because of keeping such an item is very dangerous for the health of inhabitants I got it disposed as soon as possible. When telling them this they ask for photo proof of device's condition. I told them the item is gone as I got rid of it. However they got back to me to say that "this item is classified as returnable" and that they can't move forward with the refund or return/replacement until they see the photo proof. But how would I do that if the item is gone? They continue the message, that if I'm able to recover it, they want me to submit a picture with acc holder's name and the date together with the item.

This keeps me thinking of what should I do next, I don't think it's dead yet. Any advice? I'm a beginner at SE

IMO you failed. Same thing happened to me, and like a PR, they will NOT let you without it.
Say you got it out the trash and then go photoshop it

They just didn't accept the photoshop, hence it's a highly detailed one. They keep saying that's a returnable item even though it's battery is leaking. How sus would it be boxing them? Wouldn't they use all these things against me when an investigation starts? (Damaged item and suddenly lost in transit)
