Hi guys, was hoping someone could help me out as when it comes to internet and all this it gets a tad confusing.

I currently have quite low speeds with my internet due to my area but my internet package says I am able to get up to 30mbps download speed but only get 4/5 due to my area. Now I have absolutely no idea what a 4G router does but if i get one and replace it with my standard BT router will that improve my internet speeds or not?

Asking for a friend. I'm not very knowledgeable with this kind of stuff, and I know many Members here on Sinisterly are, and could be great help. Thank-you in advance.

Has the ISP been contacted to confirm that the service provided, Is In fact what It claims to be? What your friend Is able to get and what Is actually received, are two different things. In other words, the ISP may claim to offer a given speed but fail to deliver.

Prob not, a router can't run faster than the network it is connected too. But it'll give the isp better incentive to upgrade the lines. This usually mean you get cutoff for a week or so while they are changed.

My friend's response:

Everyone is my surrounding area suffers from bad internet due to being way out in the sticks. Well they claim to give 30mbps but that is clearly not happening with just the regular BT internet so am looking for ways to improve it.

This Is what I'm trying to establish.

The first port of call Is to contact the ISP and see exactly what's provided to his equipment. If the connectivity Is not delivered as per the speed of the ISP, there's no purpose In getting a new Modem/Router. You cannot Increase what you're not getting (capped).

It's been pretty established that the best idea is to contact the ISP. In terms of a 4G router, it sounds like what is referred is a cellular data connection over a router, similar to what you get when you tether your phone's 4G data connection. If you are out and the sticks and cellular connection is spotty you won't get much improvement there anyways, but its always possible.
